Compensation secured for client after his mother was murdered.
Ed Myers was recommended to the sister of our client because of his specialist criminal injury compensation experience. Sadly our client was only 9 years old when his mother was killed after an unprovoked and violent attack by his father. Our client was able to live with his older sister. She asked Ed to bring a claim for compensation against the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) on behalf of her brother.
Our client was awarded compensation for pain and suffering. Also Ed was able to calculate loss of income which our client’s mother would used for his upbringing. The mother was self employed and had business accounts proving how much she earned. The CICA accepted Ed’s calculations without challenge and agreed that our client would have been dependant on his mother until age 18.
Our client is still under 18 years old. As a result his compensation has been placed on trust with his sister acting as trustee. This will protect our client’s finances until he reaches 18, when the money can be released to him. It also helps his sister with the cost of bringing him up. No amount of money can replace our client’s mother and the trauma of losing her at such a young age. However the money will give our client some financial security to make things a little easier for him.
