Drunken Driver Causes Severe Personal Injuries
Sukhdev sustained significant head injuries in an accident in January 2009. The accident was caused by a drunk driver and we helped Sukhdev recover compensation for his injuries. He was working as a car valeter when a drunken driver lost control of his vehicle on a dual carriageway. The car crashed into the wall of a petrol station where Sukhdev was working. Some flying masonry struck him on the head and injured him. The car driver attempted to flee the scene but Sukhdev’s work colleagues detained the man until the police arrived.
The insurers admitted liability for the accident. They were extremely cooperative from an early stage and they provided interim payments. Sukhdev needed this money to cover his loss of earnings, expenses and, importantly, the provision of a case manager and support worker.
Sukhdev underwent extensive therapy. By the time we settled his case, shortly before trial, he was able to live semi-independently. However, it is likely that he will always require a case manager and a support worker to help him with day to day activities, meal preparation, and the handling of finances and planning.
Sukhdev was unable to return to his former employment because of his injuries. He is able to do limited, supported work on a voluntary basis.
The final compensation for the brain injury was in excess of £1 million. This gave Sukhdev the necessary financial security and stability to enable him to continue with the care and support regime that had been implemented. Importantly, it also provides him with financial security.
