Cyclist Receives Compensation after Accident with a Lorry
Michael was cycling to his job as a security guard at 4.30 in the morning when he was knocked off his bike by a lorry. The lorry propelled him into the verge at the side of the road. After the accident, the driver did not stop and Michael was then found by a passer by.
Michael was taken to hospital where staff found he had suffered multiple injuries. These included a severe head injury, partial loss of vision, abdominal injuries, fractures of the left ankle and left forearm. He remained in hospital for 8 weeks before he was transferred to a rehabilitation unit.
Michael spoke to several firms of local solicitors about his bicycle accident but he got frustrated. No one seemed to be able to make progress with his case or clarify who was responsible for the accident. In the meantime, he was struggling financially and his position was getting worse. Finally, Michael contacted our personal injury solicitors. He instructed us to help with his accident claim. We took care to understand his frustrations and we listened to his predicament. Within a month we secured an interim payment of £5,000 for him. By the end of the year liability had been resolved in Michael’s favour.
The Defendants made an offer of just over £300,000. However, this was firmly rejected by Michael on our advice. After very lengthy negotiations with the Defendants they were persuaded to increase this to £450,000 in full and final settlement.
