Police Officer Recovers Compensation Through Motor Insurers Bureau

In May 2010 Andy, a police officer, was on duty when he came across a burglary in progress. The burglar ran to his car to escape. The burglar reversed down a lane, pursued by the police car. Then he changed his mind and drove forward ramming the police car, causing injury to Andy. The burglar managed to drive round the police car and escape. He was chased but in the end the pursuit was aborted.

By October 2010 it was clear that the burglar had not been effectively identified and a claim was submitted to the Motor Insurers Bureau under the Untraced Driver Scheme.

Andy suffered a whiplash injury in the accident and was unable to return to full duties for almost 10 months. After quite a protracted period of negotiation settlement was finally achieved in the sum of £6950.

A claim under the Motor Insurers Bureau (Untraced Drivers) Agreement is an avenue of last resort. Such claims do not proceed through the courts and the costs recoverable are limited. However without the Untraced Drivers Agreement Andy would not have received any compensation at all and he was very pleased with the outcome.
