Rebecca Tomes
I am delighted to be working in the Court of Protection team at Barratts, helping clients who lack capacity to manage their financial affairs. The clients have nearly all been involved in litigation claims handled by Barratts and therefore beenfit from continuity of care and support during and after the litigation ends.
I worked in the Office of Public Guardian before I joined Barratts in 2019. This experience has been a great help as I used to oversee Deputies and know first hand what support clients need from their Deputy. I have known many clients now for a number of year and it is extremely satisfying helping a client to secure much needed care, therapy and accommodation to maximise their quality of life. My background in Defendant litigation has also been useful because I am familiar with how compensation claims are quantified and the allocation of damages for different needs during a client’s lifetime.
I qualified as a solicitor in 1991 and have worked in a variety of roles; this includes litigation, working as an advocate for vulnerable people and at the Citizens Advice Bureau. I took time away to raise my family before returning to the law in 2009.
Working at Barratts is a team effort and I am pleased to be supported by Alison Brooks (our Head of Department and Senior Partner at Barratts), Mandy Godbold and Sue Banks.
